I've often wondered that myself!Try holding it up to the light or a hot hair dryer or my favorite as a young'n was to lightly (or not so lightly) flame it.Oooh and then there are cyphers -- maybe the spacing of the lines is meaningful!*sigh*. It seems like kids today learn cryptography and steganography earlier and earlier.
