Star Trek and Lord of the Rings . . . what do they have in common?
But do you really want to see a melding of elements from outer-space movies and LOTR?
You do? Oh, I don't think so. Really, I don't think you do. Well, don't say I didn't warn you.
Here's a quick-time video in which several actors (reportedly at least two from the Star Trek series) sing a song written and directed by Leonard Nimoy (a.k.a. Spock) about Bilbo Baggins. (You might want to right-click to open it in a new window.) [Here it is on a youtube server in case the first link doesn't work . . . the picture is clearer in the smaller mode rather than the default.] You can access the lyrics and MP3 for "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" by Leonard Nimoy here.
I wonder if Nimoy thought about auditioning for a role in LOTR? "Well, director . . . I've had a long-time interest in Tolkein's work. In fact, I've even recorded a song and music video about Bilbo Baggins. Would you like to see it?"
Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
He's only three feet tall
Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
The bravest little hobbit of them all
"Um, thank you very much, Mr. Nimoy. Don't call us . . . we'll call you."
But wait, there's more.
Nimoy actually released a number of music albums, among them Leonard Nimoy Presents Mr. Spock's Music from Outer Space and "The Two Sides of Leonard Nimoy" (Spock on one side, Nimoy as himself on the other).
If you want to hear something really unusual, how about Spock singing Highly Illogical, Where is Love?, or Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Earth.
Update: I had to add Mark's comments to this post. He says,
"Nimoy's stuff probably takes the cake, but there's some infamous Star Wars stuff that's nearly as bad. Check out this Christmas in the Stars album. It's frightening.
Then there's the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special, which George Lucas was so ashamed of that he has tried to track down and destroy every copy. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to."

A Star Wars flick so bad that even George Lucas was ashamed of it... after watching the Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, I didn't think that was possible.
