Grrrr

It turns out that my doctor, the one who has been listed as my primary care doctor for about a year now, simply refused to see me.

Because she hasn't had openings any of the times in the past year I've tried to make appointments with her, she's never seen me. I've always seen her physician's assistant or another doctor that had an opening.

Mind you, this is the doctor that they put me in with when my own doctor retired a year ago. She's been my "primary care doctor" ever since then.

Apparently she's "not taking new patients." So she just decided, 30 minutes before my appointment this morning, that she wouldn't see me. Period. Ever.

###################

She's been my doctor for a year. She's been getting copies of everything from other providers I've seen. She's the one who gets requests for my records from other providers. I scheduled this appointment for today months ago.

Why did it take until 30 minutes before my appointment for her to decide she wouldn't see me?

The nurse said that was what she wanted to know, too.

If she'd let me know even yesterday, I wouldn't have had to schedule a babysitter only to pay her for being driven to my house and straight back home again. (The babysitter said I didn't need to pay her, but it didn't seem fair to her not to at least give her something for her time and trouble--it's not her fault the doctor canceled on a whim at the last minute.)

I'd been willing to give this doctor another chance. Now I'm just glad I'm not going to be seeing her.

I guess my first impression of her was correct.

Is it really this hard to find a good medical practitioner? Or is it just me?

On a brighter note, Baby E's pediatrician is going to call a friend at the university/research hospital and see if there's any way they can get us in with the G
I specialist before December. At least Baby E has a good doctor.

That's absurd!! Is there anyone official you could lodge a complaint with?
You really haven't had good luck with doctors recently. *hugs for PK*

Crazy! The only bright spot is that you really didn't like her anyway. I was horrified when my OB dumped me because I really did love her.

Finding a good doctor can be a lot of trial and error. I hope that you are able to find someone that is a great fit for you.

ok so yeah, that is ridiculous. I think our baby's ped. seems like (in David's words) she cheated her way through medical school. We'll be looking for a new one (hopefully a family practice doc.) after her 2 month check tomorrow. It IS hard to find a good doc. I finally find a good doc and he is a perinatologist, so I only get to see him after I am 13 weeks pregnant... *sigh*

I'm guessing this doctor would charge you (or at least your insurance) if you had cancelled the appointment 30 minutes in advance. Maybe you should send her a bill for your babysitter's time. :)

Sending hugs and prayers your way that you will soon find an excellent doctor!

I shouldn't read things like this: it only adds to my disgruntled feelings.

Sorry about that - what a pain.

Thanks, everyone. I'm thinking I might just try a different practice altogether for myself, although I'll continue with this clinic for pediatricians.

So I found your blog through your message on mine and I have read your comments to Becci. I had to post a comment when I read this. I work in drs offices (I am staffing for pmg clinics for providence)I don't know where your dr is from but as far as I have ever seen with our clinics even if they close their practice to new pts they still keep the ones who have been assigned and had an appt with them. I would definitely complain to someone about this even if you don't want (for obvious reasons) to actually see this particular dr! That is just crazy, but like Becci said there are some drs that it just seems they cheated their way through med school and you wonder why they do it anyway. Either way good luck finding a good dr! It sounds like you need to get in with someone. Have you ever been tested for iron deficiency? Your comment about getting winded or heart feeling like it is racing sounds like I felt before it was figured out that I have a serious iron deficiency and don't actually make it myself I have to get monthly infusions to have a decent level but it can cause so many problems if it isn't right including fatigue, but dificulty sleeping and so much more.

Thanks for stopping by, My4kids. I'm definitely going to ask the doctor to test my iron levels and all that sort of thing whenever I can get in to see one. I do eat a lot of meat, so I would think that would help, but you never know.
