At The Hospital

[Posted by Angela's DH]

We came to the hospital last night when contractions started getting intense and painful. After walking for an hour, the contractions had increased, and Angela was progressing, so they checked us in at about 11pm. At 2am, Angela's water broke. For the next few hours, Angela labored. Contractions came in spurts, and often didn't last very long. At 6am, the midwife checked again, and Angela hadn't made any progress in those 4 hours. At 7:30am, we decided to try a low dose of inducement drugs to amp up the contractions, and also an IV painkiller, since by that time we hadn't slept all night and Angela was exhausted. Unfortunately, the IV painkiller did nothing, and the inducement drugs made the contractions stronger... but not much more effective. At 8:30am, we decided to go with an epidural, so Angela could get some rest and regain her strength for the pushing phase later on.

That's where we stand now. The epidural is working, and Angela is resting. We have no way of knowing whether the baby will decide to come out in 30 minutes or 8 hours... but at least Angela will be able to rest while the process proceeds.

Thanks for taking the time to keep us updated. I look forward to a wonderful report soon! Thank God for epidermals... I am glad she is getting her rest now.

I know with me I would labour for a long time and not make any progress, and then I would start to move very fast and go from 3 cm to 10 in a half hour with baby arriving within the hour.
