More pieces of the puzzle

I talked to the naturopath, and she said Baby E's test results came back showing very high levels of Candida yeast and bacteria.

Specifically, one number that was high was a specific marker for protozoa (such as giardia) or anaerobic bacteria. It will be interesting to see if the stool cultures find giardia or some other parasite.

The treatment for that is a combination of nystatin and antibiotics (flagyl). We're going to wait on the antibiotic until the GI specialist gets a chance to see some of the test results and see what she thinks. Hopefully the two doctors can collaborate and make sure we're taking the right approach.

The GI nurse practitoner also called today, and she said most of Baby E's blood test results came back normal. E is a little anemic, with a ferritin level of 8 (normal is 10-291) and a cbc NCB (size of red blood cell) of 75.8 (normal is 80 or above). (I'm not sure We're going to try an iron supplement for a month or so.

I'm so encouraged that, bit by bit, we're finding pieces to fit together to hopefully get Baby E feeling consistently a lot better.

I'm really glad this is starting to come together for you. When I first read your blog a few days ago you and Baby E's symptoms were screaming yeast/candida. I know there are other issues involved but candida causes so many domino effects I wouldn't be surprised if many of them clear once the candida and resulting secondary infections are handled.

Best of luck to you!

Whoops! Forgot to add this...
I'm sure that if you are breastfeeding you're doctor will have you test and treat for Candida as well, but I thought I'd put that out there.
Also wanted to let you know that I started the Nystatin/Cipro treatment about a week and a half ago after years of trying every other remedy in the book. I was scared to death to take the antibiotics but got so desperate I decided to try. After two days of feeling tired with some brain fog I actually went back to feeling like a human being again.
You guys will lick this part of the puzzle, I'm sure...
