Insomnia

Anyone want to share their best tips for combating insomnia and regulating sleep cycles? I can't sleep.

It's always frustrating to be really tired and know you need to sleep, and yet be unable to fall asleep.

I get hungry or not-hungry at all the wrong times half the time, too.

Been there. A few things that have helped me (when I'm good about them) are: keeping my schedule every day. Go to bed and get up at the same time, eat meals at the same time, keep active periods to the same time of day. I know it's hard with little ones--especially when they wake up in the night, but that's the single most helpful thing for me.

Also, spending about 30 minutes before bed specifically setting down things that rev my brain up (no working, no Internet, no trying to figure out how to fix a craft project gone wrong), and focusing on being still and calm.

I have found that bedtime is when my anxiety tends to kick up, so I make a point to pray through anything that is triggering anxious thoughts as well.

I hope you can get some good sleep soon!!

Compounded progesterone and melatonin to compensate for my imbalanced natural levels. Without them I'd be toting around some serious baggage!

LOL well, you could move to a different time zone?? (Hey, move to mine, I'll make you soup and babysit the girls.)

I know what worked to get Seph to sleep at night when she was an infant. I'd read somewhere that early morning sunlight was the best thing to "set" your biological clock. Heck, it's free, give it a whirl =)

Sweet dreams!

This works for me almost every time. Seriously.

1)Lie down comfortably.

2)Imagine a long, long, long spiral staircase. You are at the top. The bottom is shrouded in mists of darkness.

3)Start counting BACKWARDS from ten thousand. Slowly. Nine-thousand...nine-hundred...ninety-nine. With each number counted, take a step down the staircase.

The counting backwards is to keep your mind occupied enough that intrusive thoughts are quieted but not so busy that you can't relax into sleep. If you find it's not keeping your mind occupied enough to quiet intrusive thoughts, try counting backwards by threes.

The stairs are a common hypnosis focus.

The high number is because it has a nice rhythm when you say it slowly and it eliminates the anxiety of getting down to zero.

I've never gotten past 9800 something.

There were some tips I learned from the sleep clinic I just got back from. He stressed that no matter what time you went to bed or went to sleep, the most important thing is to force yourself to get up at the same time every morning--that's even more important than going to bed at the same time. That's hard for me. I'm so desperate for sleep that on the days I don't have school I stay in bed dozing off and on until 11 or so.

If you're having trouble going to sleep once you lay down, he suggested this plan: Figure out how many hours of sleep you actually get each night. Add a half an hour to that (to allow yourself the reasonable amount of time to fall asleep) and then go to bed only that number of hours before you get up. For example, if you average four hours of sleep each night and you need to get up at 7:00 AM, make yourself stay up until 2:30 AM.

Do that for three to six days and then move the bedtime back an hour. Theoretically, this will force your body to take full advantage of the limited time you have in bed and your sleep will be more immediate and less interrupted. Your body will learn to sleep correctly again. It sounds kinda radical and crazy, but this guy has been doing sleep classes for some 13 years and should know what he's talking about.

Another help if your schedule is off is to try taking melatonin an hour before bed.

But I have some Tips on how you can help out insomnia.

1.If you sleep very late, wake up Late too..That would probably give you the time you must rest.

2.Drink Milk.....Milk has a Vitamins which when you drink it Hot/Warm it stimulates your mind to go sleep well.
